Aodyo Instruments launch Loom Kickstarter campaign

MPE ribbon controller at prototype stage

Aodyo Instruments Loom MPE MIDI ribbon controller

Aodyo Instruments have announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of Loom, an MPE-capable MIDI ribbon controller that builds on the ideas developed during the creation of their Sylphyo and Anyma synthesizers. The company say that they are continuing to develop the Anyma Omega following the success of a previous Kickstarter campaign, and have realised that the ribbon controller used on the instrument would also appeal to many as a standalone device.

The new controller will be made available in two- and three-octave configurations, with a wooden touch strip offering independent control over pitch, timbre and dynamics for each finger used on its surface. Along with the touch control, it will also feature tactile sliders and bars on the front and back edges of the casing, along with a pressure-sensitive zone to the left of the top panel. The company have already implemented keyboard, ribbon, strum and drum kit playing modes which will be available at launch, and say that more will be added via future software updates.

Although the controller is being optimised for MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression), it will still be fully compatible with standard MIDI instruments, and will feature both USB and TRS-based MIDI connectivity.
