Luminary ROLI have announced the upcoming release of the Seaboard Block M, an updated and refined version of the Seaboard Block MIDI controller. Developed in response to requests from the ROLI user community, the compact device promises to bring powerful expressive performance possibilities to musicians at home, on stage and in the studio.
The Seaboard Block M utilises the company’s 5D Touch technology, with Strike, Press, Glide, Slide and Lift gestures offering a huge amount of control over MPE-enabled instruments; users are able to customise the controller’s velocity curves to suit their own playing styles, whilst MIDI and USB-C outputs offer simple, direct integration with a huge range of instruments. It features a 24-key design with keys that extend all the way to the edge of the controller, and built-in DNA connectors make it possible to link multiple units or pair the device with ROLI’s LUMI Keys Studio Edition.
Constructed from premium materials, the Block M has been designed with durability in mind, and promises to stand up to the rigours of extended studio use and touring whilst still being comfortable to play. Built-in Bluetooth allows it to communicate wirelessly at distances up to 15 metres, and it also boasts 10 hours of battery life.
There is also integration with the company’s ROLI Studio Software Suite, which provides features such as Smart Chords, a Multi-Layered Arpeggio and macro controls, along with a curated selection of 400 sounds and presets. The package also offers access to ROLI Studio Drums, an MPE-capable plug-in packed with 15 drums kits, each with 16 controllable parts.

The Seaboard Block M is available to pre-order now for $349.95£299.95 including VAT / €349.95, and will begin shipping in March 2024. The company are currently only shipping to the US, Canada, UK and Europe.
