Enhanced oversampling & GUI overhaul

Schwabe Digital have announced the release of the latest version of their clipping and saturation plug-in. Gold Clip 1.2.1 sports an updated user interface along with new oversampling options, a downsampling filter technique and some other user-requested features.

Oversampling

The plug-in is now equipped with three oversampling options: High, Pristine and Extra Pristine. The exact oversampling rate will change depending on the sample rate of the DAW session, a measure which the company say has been implemented to ensure Gold Clip offers the same sound quality regardless of the sample rate used by the host software. The rates are as follows:

  • High: 4x (44.1 / 48 kHz), 2x (88.2 / 96 kHz +)
  • Pristine: 8x (44.1 / 48 kHz), 4x (88.2 / 96 kHz +)
  • Extra Pristine: 16x (44.1 / 48 kHz), 8x (88.2 / 96kHz +)

The Settings window now offers optional Linear Phase and Minimum Phase operation modes, both of which employ a newly designed amplitude-modulated filter along with anti-aliasing processing. It is also possible to choose separate oversampling rates for real-time and offline bouncing.

GUI & Improvements

The GUI has undergone a redesign, with the Tooltips button moved to the front page and a new gearbox icon providing quicker access to the plug-in’s Settings window. The Clip Filter has been moved to the clipper selection button, and both the a and B states of the plug-in’s built-in comparison feature are saved with the session.

Switching between sounds has been improved, too — it is now now possible to toggle between a and B settings without having to move the mouse between them. For Pro Tools users, the AAX version of Gold Clip now offers quick access to their DAW’s automation dialog. The improvements also extend to the Settings window, which has also been treated to a visual upgrade.

Compatibility

Gold Clip is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11 (the company recommend Windows 11), and Macs running macOS 10.13 and above. VST, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

The latest version of Gold Clip is available now, and is free to download for current users. For those wishing to purchase the plug-in, it is priced at $199 for a perpetual license, or is available via a rent-to-own plan, which costs $20 per month for 10 months. The company have also reset the 30-day trial, so those who have already tried the previous version of the plug-in can test out the latest version until 25 December 2023.
