Sonible launch pure:unmask

Create space in a mix with spectral processing

Sonible pure:unmask spectral processing create space separation in mix

The fifth addition to Sonible’s pure:bundle plug-in collection uses spectral processing to tackle frequency masking and help provide some separation between competing sources in a mix. pure:unmask sticks to the same formula at the rest of the range, offering a simple set of controls that aim to help users achieve pro-level results with minimal fuss.

The plug-in can be inserted on any track which needs some space ‘carving out’, and accepts a side-chain signal from the track that the user wants to emphasise. A drop-down menu offers a selection of profiles that tailor the processing depending on the content of the side-chain signal, with a Universal option joined by more specific options aimed at vocals and speech, guitars, drums, bass and so on.

The processing applied can then be fine-tuned using a simple set of four controls. A central Unmasking parameter determines the overall amount of processing applied, while a Resolution control makes it possible to define the width of the spectral processing bands. Speed then alters the attack and release times to make sure the effect is optimised for the content the source material, and finally, a Range control can be used to restrict the processing to a narrower frequency range.

Compatibility

pure:unmask is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
