Native Instruments announce Crosstalk Piano

Blend clean piano samples with heavily processed sounds

Native Instruments Crosstalk Piano sample library modulated evolving soundscapes

The latest addition to the Native Instruments line-up takes a new approach to piano libraries, combining faithfully captured recordings with a collection of processed multi-samples. Crosstalk Piano makes it possible to layer multiple sounds, and comes equipped with a range of settings that can be used to modulate each layer over time to create new and interesting sounds.

The core piano sounds capture a restored instrument originally built in 1974, with the recording team employing a number of different playing techniques — including plucking the strings — to provide a range of interesting tones. The team also recorded notes with a custom felt moderator placed between the hammers, and some with gaffer tape stuck to the strings! a set of even more extreme sounds are also included, with re-synthesised and deconstructed samples joined by FM piano tones, guitar-like feedback sounds and more, most of which have been heavily processed using a variety of vintage hardware.

The instrument’s key feature is its Crosstalk control, which allows users to apply independent volume modulation to each of the layered samples over time, and is capable of generating everything from slow, evolving textures to fast-paced rhythmic variations. There are also six macro controls that offer in-depth shaping of the overall sound. A huge selection of built-in experimental sounds are provided thanks to over 200 presets, each of which is equipped with three sound variations.

Compatibility

Crosstalk Piano runs in the company’s Kontakt and free Kontakt Player samplers (versions 7.6 and above), which are supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 12 or higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with standalone applications.
